Fall 2024 Semester Scholarships

A variety of scholarships are available to Blue Ridge Community and Technical College students through the Blue Ridge Community and Technical College Foundation, based on financial need and academic achievement. The table below lists scholarship categories – you can review full details of the scholarships available by clicking the categories or scroll down this page.

The application process:

  1. Complete the FAFSA 24-25 Application
  2. Complete the Blue Ridge CTC Foundation Application:

  3. Include a brief personal statement with your application (ie: college and career goals and any information you would like to share with the scholarship committee).
  4. Attach any other forms or essays required by the scholarship details (shown below and also on the printable application).

High School Scholarships: Applications Due by March 2, 2024 for fall scholarship awards.

High School Scholarships

BLUE RIDGE CTC FOUNDATION HIGH SCHOOL EXCELLENCE SCHOLARSHIP

Applications Due by March 2nd

The Blue Ridge CTC Foundation will provide one $750 Scholarship to a graduate from each of the schools below.

  • Berkeley Springs High School
  • Hedgesville High School
  • Martinsburg High School
  • Musselman High School
  • Jefferson High School
  • Spring Mills High School
  • Paw Paw High School
  • Washington High School
  • Private School or Home Schooled

CRITERIA:

  • West Virginia resident currently enrolled as a senior in one of the above listed high schools
  • Cumulative GPA of at least a 2.5 or higher
  • Enroll in at least 6 credit hours at Blue Ridge Community & Technical College
  • Award must be used in the fall semester following graduation from high school.

BLUE RIDGE CTC FOUNDATION HIGH SCHOOL PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Blue Ridge CTC Foundation is providing a unique opportunity for one Tri-County high school student who has demonstrated an outstanding level of scholastic excellence to receive the Blue Ridge CTC Foundation Presidential Scholarship. The Presidential Scholarship is an award of $1500 and selected from the applicants of the Blue Ridge CTC Foundation High School Excellence Scholarship.

CRITERIA:

  • Meet the application requirements for the Blue Ridge CTC Foundation High School Excellence Scholarship 
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher

Business & Associate of Arts Scholarships

DR. TRUDIE HOLDER SCHOLARSHIP

Applications Due by April 28th 

The Dr. Trudie Holder Scholarship was established by Blue Ridge faculty and staff from Blue Ridge CTC in honor of her retirement and her 27 years of dedicated service to the College and students. The total award is up to $1,000 per year.

CRITERIA:

  • Full-time, non-traditional student
  • Business-related field of study
  • Completed one year of college study
  • GPA between 2.8 – 3.2
  • Preference is given to students not eligible for PELL grants

THE PROFESSOR TODD YOUNG SCHOLARSHIP

Applications Due by April 28th 

The Professor Todd Young Scholarship was established on January 9, 2013 by faculty, staff and students from Blue Ridge Community and Technical College in memory and honor of Todd’s dedicated years of inspiring teaching, acting, and directing services to the Division of Arts. The total award is up to $500.00 per year.

CRITERIA:

  • Degree-seeking Associate of Arts student
  • GPA between 2.50 and 4.0
  • Completed or be enrolled in ACFN 010, ENGL 101, ENGL 102, ENGL 204, or ENGL 208
  • Submit a short essay about the value of literacy in one’s life

Agribusiness Scholarships

BERKELEY-JEFFERSON EXTENSION MASTER GARDENER ASSOCIATION (BJEMGA) AGRIBUSINESS SCHOLARSHIP

Applications Due by April 28th 

The Berkeley Jefferson Extension Master Gardener program is an educational program designed to meet the horticultural needs of the citizens of West Virginia.  Extension Master Gardeners are volunteers who represent the West Virginia University Extension service.  BJEMGA offers a $500 scholarship to a student in the two-year AgriBusiness program. Scholarship Award is to be equally divided between the fall and spring semesters

CRITERIA:

  • Applicant must have completed one year of the two-year program
  • Applicant must maintain a minimum 2.5 grade point average
  • Applicant must show financial need
  • Applicant must reside in Berkeley or Jefferson County
  • Applicant must submit a brief (200-word maximum) statement about his/her interest in horticulture
  • Applicant must agree to attend the BJEMGA fall luncheon to be introduced to the membership

Farm Credit Agribusiness Scholarship

Applications Due by April 28th 

The Farm Credit Foundation for Agricultural Advancement was founded in 2015, as part of Farm Credit’s 2016 centennial celebration.  This Agribusiness Scholarship award, totals $10,000 to be equally divided between five Agribusiness students for the fall and spring semesters.

CRITERIA:

  • Applicant must have at least a 2.5 grade point average.
  • Applicant must demonstrate financial need
  • Applicant must reside in the Horizon Farm Credit’s territory made up of the following states/counties:
    • Delaware:  all counties
    • Pennsylvania:  all counties
    • Maryland:  Baltimore, Carroll, Caroline, Cecil, Dorchester, Frederick, Harford, Howard, Kent, Montgomery, Queen Anne’s, Somerset, Talbot, Washington, Wicomico, Worcester
    • West Virginia:  Berkeley, Brooke, Hancock, Jefferson, Morgan, Marshall, Ohio
    • Virginia:  Accomack, Clarke, Frederick, Northampton, Page, Shenandoah, Warren
  • Applicant must submit a typed personal statement about how the scholarship will help them achieve their college and career goals.


Culinary Arts Scholarships

The Hollywood Casino Culinary Scholarship

Applications Due by April 28th 

The Hollywood Casino Culinary Scholarship was established in 2012 by Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races. The total award for each student is $1000 per year

CRITERIA:

  • Applicant must have at least a 3.0 GPA
  • Financial Need
  • Enrolled in a Culinary-related program

Steve Weiss Culinary Arts Scholarship

Applications Due by April 28th 

The Steve Weiss Culinary Arts Scholarship was established in January 2016. One student will be awarded a $500.00 scholarship for the fall semester.

CRITERIA:

  • Applicant must be have completed two semesters in the Culinary Arts program.
  • Applicant must have a 3.0, or better, grade point average.
  • Applicant must submit a typed personal statement about financial need and culinary career goals.

Jefferson County CEOS Foundation Scholarship

Applications Due by April 28th 

This scholarship is being established through Blue Ridge Community and Technical College and funded by the Jefferson County Community Educational Outreach Service Special Funds in an effort to give a US citizen of Jefferson County, West Virginia, financial help.  The person’s desire must be to better their abilities by increasing their education, working skills and employability within the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia.  Through this effort on their part, they will be able to have a better chance to have a better life for themselves and/or their family.  No discrimination as to age or gender will be made.

CRITERIA:

  • US Citizen of Jefferson County, WV
  • Financial Need
  • Preference given first to Health Related Programs and second to Culinary Arts
  • GPA 3.0 or higher (no lower than 2.0)
  • Complete the below JCCEOS Information Sheet along with application

Education Scholarships

Guttmann Family Early Childhood Education Development Scholarship

Applications Due by April 28th 

The Guttmann Family Scholarship was established in August of 2017 by Elaine and Paul Guttmann. The total scholarship award is $3,000.00 per academic year. The award will be made in the form of two $750 awards in the fall semester and two $750 awards in the spring semester. A student may receive up to two awards from this scholarship.

CRITERIA:

  • Applicant must have at least a 2.0 grade point average
  • Applicant must have completed at least 2 semesters of study at Blue Ridge CTC in the Early Childhood Education Development Program
  • Applicant must demonstrate financial need
  • Applicant must submit a typed personal statement about how the scholarship will help them achieve their college and career goal

Jefferson County CEOS Foundation Scholarship

Applications Due by April 28th

Sheila Spangler Memorial Medical Assisting Student Scholarship

Applications Due by April 28th 

The Sheila Spangler Medical Assisting Student Scholarship was established in January 2017 in memory of Sheila Spangler. Sheila was the Medical Assisting Program, Lecturer and Externship Clinical Coordinator at Blue Ridge Community and Technical College. Although diagnosed with cancer, Sheila always assisted her students and paved the way for their success. She was a wonderful educator and inspired many students to complete their training as Medical Assistants.  One student will be awarded up to a $500.00 scholarship for the fall semester.

CRITERIA:

  • Applicant must have completed one semester in the Medical Assisting Program.
  • Applicant must have a 3.0, or better, grade point average
  • Applicant must submit a typed essay on “Why do you want to pursue a career in Medical Assisting?” The essay should include thoughts on what it means to be a professional, a leader, and meeting patients’ needs

STEM Program Scholarships

The Opportunity Scholarship

Applications Due by April 28th 

The Opportunity Scholarship was established in 2018 to have a significant impact on students in the STEM programming majors of: Mechatronics, Engineering Technology, Plastics Engineering Technology, Cyber Security and Applied Laboratory Technician and Nursing.  The award will pay for all tuition/fees not covered by existing grants and will include a $500 textbook voucher.

CRITERIA:

  • Degree-seeking student in one of the following STEM programs: Mechatronics, Engineering Technology, Plastics Engineering Technology, Cyber Security and Applied Laboratory Technician and Nursing.
  • Applicant must have a 2.5 GPA
  • Applicant must demonstrate financial need
  • Applicant must have completed at least two semesters of study in the qualifying majors, at Blue Ridge CTC
  • Applicant must submit a typed personal statement about how the scholarship will help them achieve their college and career goals.
  • Applicant must be a resident of West Virginia

Thomas, Bennett & Hunter, Inc. Scholarship

Applications Due by April 28th 

The Thomas, Bennett & Hunter, Inc. Scholarship was established in 2021 and will be awarded to a full-time student pursuing a degree in a STEM-based program at Blue Ridge CTC.  The total annual scholarship award is $1,000 to be equally divided between the fall and spring semesters.  

CRITERIA:

  • Degree-seeking student in STEM program
  • Berkeley or Jefferson County Resident
  • GPA 2.0 or higher & maintained
  • Enrolled full-time (registered for 12 or more credits)
  • Demonstrates financial need
  • Preference is given to applicants whose parents or grandparents are employed by or retired from Thomas, Bennett & Hunter, Inc. 

TSPi Information Technology Scholarship

Applications Due by April 28th 

The TSPi Information Technology Scholarship will be awarded to a student pursuing a degree in an Information Technology-based program. The total annual scholarship award is $2,000 to be divided between the fall and spring semesters. The student will reside in the state of West Virginia and maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.5.

CRITERIA:

  • Degree-seeking student in Information Technology program
  • West Virginia Resident
  • GPA 2.5 or higher & maintained
  • Enrolled full-time (registered for 12 or more credits)
  • Demonstrates financial need

Textbook Scholarships

FirstEnergy Foundation STEM Textbook Scholarship

Applications Due by April 28th 

The FirstEnergy Foundation STEM textbook voucher scholarship award is $2,000 per academic year. The award will be disbursed in the form of five, $200 textbook vouchers in the fall semester and five, $200 textbook vouchers in the spring semester.  This award will focus on students enrolled in STEM based programs in the Workforce, Engineering and Technology department.

CRITERIA:

  • Applicant must have at least a 2.5 grade point average.
  • Applicant must demonstrate financial need
  • Applicant must submit a typed personal statement about how the scholarship will help them achieve their college and career goals.

Guttmann Family Textbook Scholarship

Applications Due by April 28th 

The Guttmann Family Scholarship was established in August of 2017 by Elaine and Paul Guttmann. The total textbook voucher scholarship award is $1,000.00 per academic year. The award will be disbursed in the form of five $100 textbook vouchers in the fall semester and five $100 textbook vouchers in the spring semester.

CRITERIA:

  • Applicant must have at least a 2.0 grade point average
  • Applicant must have completed at least 2 semesters of study at Blue Ridge CTC in any major.
  • Applicant must demonstrate financial need
  • Applicant must submit a typed personal statement about how the scholarship will help them achieve their college and career goals.

Blue Ridge CTC Equality Textbook Scholarship

Applications Due by April 28th 

Preference to students who identify as LGBTQ or a child of LGBTQ parent(s) or guardian(s).  Additional preference will be given to a student who is (or has been) any one or more of the following: first-generation, homeless, in the foster care system, undocumented, or successfully passed the GED or TASC exam.

CRITERIA:

  • Applicant must have at least a 2.5 grade point average
  • Applicant must be a Blue Ridge CTC degree seeking student
  • Applicant must demonstrate financial need.
  • Applicant must submit a minimum 500 word essay on the student’s reason they should receive the scholarship.  Address either being LGBTQ or growing up in an LGBTQ household (child of LGBTQ parents or guardians).  Include any challenges you overcame, leadership lessons learned, any community service you have completed, and participation in club/organizations.

Any Degree Program Scholarships

Raymond B. & Susan M. Benzinger Scholarship

Applications Due by April 28th 

The Raymond B. & Susan M. Benzinger Scholarship was established in January 2016 by Raymond B. and Susan M. Benzinger. The total scholarship award is $2,000.00 per academic year. The award will be made in the form of one $1,000 award in the fall semester and one $1,000 award in the spring semester. A student may receive up to two awards from this scholarship.

CRITERIA:

  • Applicant must have at least a 2.0 grade point average
  • Applicant can be in any degree program
  • Applicant must have completed at least 2 semesters of study at Blue Ridge CTC
  • Applicant must demonstrate financial need
  • Applicant must submit a typed personal statement about how the scholarship will help them achieve their college and career goals.

Encova Scholars Scholarship

Applications Due by April 28th 

This annually funded scholarship was established in January 2016 by the Encova Foundation. The Encova scholarship will be awarded to students enrolled at Blue Ridge CTC, meeting the following criteria.

CRITERIA:

  • Applicants must maintain a minimum of 2.5 grade point average.
  • Applicants may be pursuing any major; however, preference shall be given for applicants majoring in math, nursing or education.
  • Applicants must be enrolled as a fulltime student.
  • Applicants must meet one of the following:
    • Applicants who demonstrate financial need.
    • Applicants whose parents reside in the State of West Virginia, and whose parents have either permanent total disability or have passed away from a work-related injury.
    • Applicants whose parents or grandparents are employees of Encova Mutual Insurance Company, a West Virginia insurance corporation.
  • Application must include the Encova Scholars Scholarship Form – you may print the form at the link below or complete this form as part of the online application.
